Additive mfg (3D Printing) technologies are evolving so rapidly that one needs to stay on its toes to follow all new leads. Many researchers are focused on developing new technologies while others working tirelessly to improvise the existing ones. Here is an example of what we discussed previously. I printed this part yesterday using a Hobby-type machine. I used our rule of thumb for orientation. See the CAD model and the printed model.
